Youth involvement is critical to the success of the tobacco control movement. Young people have been instrumental in promoting policies, programs and attitudes to reduce the use of tobacco among their peers and within their families, schools and communities.  Across the country, youth and young adults have contributed energy, ideas and creativity to advance a movement that is fundamentally about saving lives and restoring hope for a healthier world.

Since its inception, Legacy has recognized the importance of youth activists in the fight against tobacco, and we support the efforts of young people who are ready to make a difference through the following Youth Activism programs:

Youth Activism Fellowship Program (Legacy Fellows)

Through this 18-month leadership program, we nurture and develop young adult leaders committed to making their communities healthier through tobacco control. Our fellowship includes training, mentorship and technical assistance that helps advance local projects and national initiatives.  We also provide annual opportunities for youth to educate lawmakers about tobacco control efforts in their communities.

Youth Leadership Institute

Each year, we partner with leading local tobacco control programs across the nation to get more youth involved and provide resources for grassroots action in targeted communities. Our support helps strengthen programs that recognize the energy, creativity, and leadership that teens bring to tobacco control.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2013-2014 Youth Leadership Institute! Apply Here.

Application Deadline on or before 12:00 noon EST, May 17, 2013.

This year, Legacy is partnering with Campaign for Tobacco Free Kid's Youth Advocacy Symposium. Participants will come together for joint sessions, to collaborate on an activism event, and more.

Coordinator Camp

Working with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, we help adult coordinators build skills, share best practices and promote collaboration to motivate and coordinate youth activism against tobacco. The Camp also hosts an online community at www.coordinatorcamp.org to connect youth coordinators around the US and amplify their impact through the sharing of strategies, activities and events.
