Surveys and Data

For many years, Legacy has conducted research and evaluation projects, both for our programs and to help fill the gaps in knowledge in tobacco control. Data are available for the National Youth Tobacco Survey and the Legacy Media Tracking Surveys.

The National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) was developed in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The NYTS measures tobacco-related beliefs, attitudes and behavior among youth. It also assesses the pro- and anti-tobacco influences to which they are exposed. For more information about the NYTS, including access to NYTS 1999-2002, click here.

The Legacy Media Tracking Survey (LMTS) is a periodic national telephone survey of young people, ages 12 to 24, which uses random-digit dialing to ensure representative sampling. Working with the Legacy Evaluation and Research Coordinating Team at RTI International, Legacy designed the LMTS to monitor youth exposure to the truth® campaign and the campaign’s effect on tobacco use over time.  For more information about the LMTS, including access to datasets and questionnaires, click here.
