Research

In the fight to reduce tobacco use in America, research and education are powerful tools. So rigorous and timely research is a hallmark of the American Legacy Foundation.

We're committed to conducting and disseminating research on the impact of tobacco and making important contributions to scientific, health and policy debates.

Through research, we build effective initiatives and contribute to and expand upon the body of knowledge about tobacco control. Research and evaluation is directed by both foundation staff and colleagues from some of the most prestigious colleges, and universities and research institutions across the country.

Our research efforts:

  • Documenting tobacco-use beliefs, attitudes and behavior.
  • Evaluating all Foundation programs.
  • Providing technical assistance for program goals and outcome studies.
  • Funding outside research in specific areas of tobacco control.

Schroeder Institute

Current gaps in tobacco control include the slow speed of development of more effective interventions and the inordinate delay in translating existing research knowledge into applications for widespread adoption and science-driven policy.  Putting what we know into practice and policy is essential to reduce smoking prevalence in our nation.

Legacy’s newly formed Schroeder Institute for Tobacco Research and Policy Studies (SI) is ideally positioned to play a leadership role in strengthening the national agenda for next generation research in tobacco control. Learn more.
