Nominate a Deserving Colleague For Work at the Community Level

Legacy is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2011 Community Activist Award recognizing an individual’s outstanding contribution to tobacco prevention and cessation at the community level.

Legacy is a national public health organization dedicated to building a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. Along with broad-based national campaigns aimed at these two goals – prevention and cessation – Legacy is devoted to strengthening communities through local programs and technical assistance, sponsorship support, and work with state and local tobacco control advocates.

Each year, Legacy presents the Community Activist Award to recognize an exceptional individual who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to creating a tobacco-free world in his or her community.  The award is presented to a leader in the community with experience spearheading innovative and influential tobacco control projects, especially those that reflect Legacy’s mission to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit.

The winner will receive an honorarium of $2,500 and recognition through press releases and Legacy publications.

Nominee Requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • A minimum of one year active work in the field of tobacco control
  • Involvement in spearheading innovative tobacco control activities
  • Recognition as a leader in his/her community  (For the purpose of this award, “community” is defined as a local, geographic community such as a town, county, or region. The nominee may also focus on a special population within the community, but the nominee’s activities must be focused on a particular local, geographic community rather than nation- or state-wide.)
  • Reflection of Legacy’s mission in community activities
