Government Affairs
Legacy's Government Affairs team communicates Legacy's mission to policymakers at the local, state and federal levels.
In accordance with the Master Settlement Agreement, Legacy does not lobby or take positions on specific legislation. Government Affairs monitors actions regarding tobacco use and health policy in the U.S. and ensures policymakers have relevant facts and information.
Government Affairs also maintains relationships with national organizations, federal agencies and Congress and shares information on research, initiatives and programs. The dpeartment also:
- Conducts educational outreach to government entities about the impact tobacco use has on our nation.
- Engages policymakers through briefings, presentations and various events to highlight the state of tobacco use today.
- Provides commentary, suggestions and research to help inform governmental processes including the federal regulatory process.
- Highlights significant research findings – particularly in the areas of smoking prevention and cessation.
