Since 2000, Legacy has made more than $150 million in grants to support community-based efforts and to recognize new and better tobacco control programs. Legacy grants have made remarkable contributions and progress in youth smoking prevention, adult smoking cessation, cultural tailoring advocacy and research in communities all across the nation.
But in response to the financial downturn and to maximize impact of limited funds, Legacy has shifted its efforts to focus mostly on population-based strategies and suspended its competitive grant-making programs. Legacy will no longer solicit or accept competitive funding requests and existing grants will be phased out through 2012.
