Menthol
Legacy is a leading advocate for a ban on menthol cigarettes. Research shows that menthol cigarettes contribute to youth smoking initiation and make it harder for adults to quit. Menthols are smoked disproportionately by youth and African-Americans.
Momentum is growing. In a historic announcement, on March 18, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee concluded that the removal of menthol cigarettes from the market would benefit public health in the United States. Legacy urges the FDA to take the necessary steps to put a menthol ban into place.
