Communications Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Communications
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President, Communications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Writing and editing media and related materials (news releases, Web and newsletter copy, pitch letters, articles, talking points)
- Creating media lists and utilizing in-house media tools (eNR) to help streamline media relations activities; maintaining media contacts database
- Making pitch calls and proactively pitching foundation activities to the media
- Responding to reporter inquiries
- Managing all communications for interactive consumer response. Monitors consumer e-mail requests, and crafts responses to them; prepares comprehensive monthly status reports on consumer e-mail; produces special reports regarding sensitive e-mail communications issues.
- Monitoring and handling both e-mail responses and the blogosphere for trends and issues that impact the foundation. Assist with foundation interactive activities or special projects as needed, including producing Podcasts and utilizing social networking tools.
- Providing general communications support, including execution of news conferences and special events
- Coordinates collateral projects and helps manage vendor relationships
- Manages interns
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required with focus in communications, public relations, or journalism a plus. The successful candidate will have 3-4 years experience working in the public relations/communications setting in a public relations agency, or nonprofit, corporate or government sectors. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent computer, organizational, and research skills; ability to work independently and efficiently on concurrent projects; and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff and outside agency partners/vendors. Flexibility and attention to detail also an important part of the job. The candidate must have experience using media monitoring and database tools, as well as knowledge of the Web, blogosphere, social networking and social media tools. Experience in healthcare, social marketing, or journalism is preferred but not required.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Salary range is mid $40’s based on experience with EXCELLENT benefits.
