Formal academic ties have been established with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Georgetown University / Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

In 2007, Legacy established a formal memorandum of understanding with JHSPH that provides access to full resources of the School of Public Health and Medical School, including administrative, biostatistics and other core resources, clinical trials research management, information technology, and grants management to support the partnership and its growing research portfolio. This institutional partnership has been extremely productive with several joint grant submissions, conference presentations, and active mentoring of JHSPH master’s and doctoral students by SI faculty. In addition, SI faculty teach in various courses in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society in the School of Public Health. Examples of specific collaborations between SI and JHSPH faculty are described below.

  • HIV/AIDS and Smoking Research
  • Hospital-based Smoking Cessation Research

Georgetown Lombardi

Georgetown University / Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center

Similarly, the SI established a formal partnership with Georgetown University in 2009, establishing the Schroeder/Lombardi Cancer Control Consortium. The Consortium seeks to advance tobacco-related research, policy and education, utilizing the shared knowledge and expertise of both institutions.  SI faculty participate in a monthly tobacco seminar series sponsored by the Cancer Genetics and Epidemiology Program at Georgetown; lecture in graduate courses led by faculty in the Cancer Control Program; participate in faculty meetings and strategic planning; and serve on internal grant review committees. Examples of specific collaborations within the Schroeder/Lombardi Cancer Control Consortium are described below.

  • Latin American Cancer Research Coalition
  • e-cigarette Research
  • Minority Health and Health Disparities Research
