Grantee Projects

Cigars, Cigarillos & Little Cigars  ||  Grantee Projects  ||  FDA Tobacco Act

The following is a representative sampling of recent projects supported by Legacy focused on the Cigar, Cigarillo and Little Cigar issue:

Ventura County Public Health, Oxnard, CA
Project: Little Cigar Risk Perception Social Media Education Project
Current Grantee

This project addresses the use of little cigars among 18-34 year olds by developing a social media platform to increase the awareness of little cigars and cigarillos among tobacco control professionals and advocates including issues such as marketing tactics, promotion of flavored products and perceived reduced risk.

Grantee: Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA
Project: Development of an Innovative Community Intervention to Reduce Little Cigar Use among African American Young Adults
Current Grantee

This community based-research project is developing a community-based intervention to counter the influence of marketing and promotion of little cigars and educate smokers about the health risks.

Grantee: Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD
Project: Developing Strategies to Reduce Smoking among 18-24 year old, Urban African Americans
Previous Grantee

The primary objective of this research was to prevent the burden of cancer-related disease in a high-risk inner city African American population of young adults who are not in school. It helps to understand the complex array of factors at the individual, community, and policy level that contribute to the high rate of smoking among young adult, African Americans in Baltimore.

Though Legacy is no longer accepting proposals for grant funding, more information about the grants listed above can be obtained by contacting the Grants team.
