truth® or Consequences Youth Tobacco Grants Program
In 2006, the American Legacy Foundation® received a grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to extend delivery of the Foundation’s successful truth® youth smoking prevention campaign to more young people across the country. To help reach rural and smaller communities, the Foundation provides the truth® or Consequences Youth Tobacco Prevention Grants Program. The program supports youth focused, community-based tobacco use prevention efforts. Organizations in 18 states were eligible to apply for the grants, but the grants were only funded to 11 organizations located in 8 states (Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington). Project implementation is taking place in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, Washington, and Wyoming.
The grants allow community organizations to leverage the truth® media campaign in their areas by developing prevention projects relevant to 12 to 17-year-olds and engage and promote young people as agents of social change. Grantees will design and implement the youth-driven projects. Learn more.
