Policy

Legacy takes evidence-based policy positions on important issues in tobacco control. In accordance with the Master Settlement Agreement, Legacy does not advocate for or against specific legislation. Our policy positions  inform policymakers and public health advocates on critical tobacco control issues impacting the United States.

In addition to authoring policy papers, Legacy engages policymakers and stakeholders through the regulatory process as well as through educational outreach, including briefings, presentations and other events to highlight the state of tobacco use today and the most effective ways to reduce tobacco-related death and disease.

Primary Issues Include:

Implementation of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act) – See comments Legacy has submitted to federal agencies here.

  • Menthol Cigarettes – Find more information on Legacy's policy work in this area here.
