is the largest youth smoking prevention campaign in the country – and the only national campaign not directed by the tobacco industry.

Launched in February 2000, truth® has become an extraordinary public health success story.  About 80% of smokers start smoking before the age of 18.  truth works to keep teens from ever smoking.

The campaign exposes the tactics of the tobacco industry, the truth about addiction, and the health effects and social consequences of smoking. It doesn't preach. It doesn't judge. Instead it works by allowing teens to make their own informed choices about tobacco use.  The campaign includes:

Educational advertising on television, social networking sites and increasing grassroots outreach through a summer tour.

  • Facts and information about tobacco and the industry, giving teens tools to take control and make informed decisions.
  • A highly interactive Web site offers important information about tobacco use.

"We're not anti-smoker, or anti-smoking. We're just anti-manipulations. With that in mind, we try to "out" Big Tobacco's tactics so everyone knows what they're up to."
